From the recording HONOR MIGRANTE
Noreteña/Regional Cal-Mex
Inspired by the African American National Anthem "Lift Every Voice" as Millions of people took to the streets in 2006 in response to the "Senslessbrenner" bill aimed at attacking migrant people in the U.S. and to declare Justice for undocumented workers, demanding fair treatment, representation as we already pay taxation.
Acordión y bajo sexto: Eddie Perez (San Antonio, TX), bajo/bass: Geoff Brenan, batería/drums: Josh Jones, voz: Fco Herrera
Lyrics
El Nuevo Sol
FJ Herrera – c. p. 2007
Va saliendo el nuevo sol,
Ya se ve la luz del día.
Ya aprovechamos la noche
Como lo hace la semilla:
Cuando vive bajo tierra
Buscando la nueva vida;
Ya enraizamos con la fuerza
De la madre que nos cuida
Aunque vengan vientos fuertes
Nos estamos asomando
Para dar tremendos frutos
Que hoy estamos cultivando
Pues ya viene la cosecha
Por eso estamos cantando
Va saliendo el nuevo sol
Y se siente la alegría
Después de tanta tristeza
Lágrimas y pesadillas
De torrentes que han llegado
Asotando a esta semilla
Mas mi pueblo no se raja
Y a todo le saca vida
Día y noche trabajando
Siempre contemplando un sueño
Ese sueño de mi pueblo
Y que ya lo vamos viendo
El que cosecha de la gente
Que no se le agacha al dueño
Translation
The new sun is rising
We can see the day a new
We’ve profitted from the night
As the seed does
When it lives under the Earth
Searching new life
Now we’ve rooted with strength
From the mother that nurtures us
No matter Strong winds come
We are sticing our head out” (it’s an idom”)
In order to bare great fruit
Which we are now cultivating
For the Harvest is coming
And that is why we are singing
The new sun is rising
And we feel the happiness
After so much sandez
Tears and nightmares
Of storms that have come
Assaulting this seed
But my people don’t give up
And turns everything into life
Working day and night
Always contemplating a dream
The dream of my people
Which we are Beginning to see
Which is harvested by a people
Who do not bow down to the owning class
