Francisco also has a masters in Theology, which enriches his music as a Liturgical Musician for many types of ritual and has thirty years experience as a performer of children's music as well. Francisco Herrera es un trabajador de la cultura, organizador comunitario, cantautor y teólogo, que ha dedicado su vida al servicio comunitario. Su música es una forma de arte púvlico, presentado en iglesias, plazas, escuelas, acciones cívicas, piqueteos, manifestaciones y en todos lados sus canciones inspiran y dan esperanza. Su voz, única, capta la esencia de "Chicano Soul", estilo que mezcla la inspiración rítimica de la balada y "rythm and blues" con el sentido de la ranchera mexicana. cuando se casó mi prima Zujeila con Renato tomé la oportunidad de componerle una canción y recordar al rancho que fue su casa y el campo que dio vida a mi madre en Mexicali, Baja California, México y a los campos del Valle Imperial de donde es éste servidor, Calexico California. De ahi viene la canción, jugando con el amor que nace cuando una pareja se llega a conocer desde su juventud como en el caso de Zujeila y Renato, donde hay chisme, susurro se ve la vulnerabilidad uno del otros porque se conocieron desde su formación. Me encanta el amor de Zujeila y Renato, por su espíritu juventud, roquero y con conciencia social por el cuidado a la madre tierra y el medio ambiente. Su compromiso a si mismos como pareja, a sus familias y a la humanidad. Los quiero mucho, me inspiran y me da mucho gusto haberles compuesto esta canción y poder recordar el Canalón que es tan viejo como la gente de los ranchos de los campos del valle de Mexicali y el Valle Imperial.
When my cousin Zujeila and her boyfriend Renato got married I took the oportunity of writing a song that would remember the ranch that was her home and fields that gave birth to my mother and father in the Valley divided by an international border, Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico and Calexico California of the Imperial Valley where my father and I were born. That is where the song comes from playing with the love that comes from a couple that met in their youth and grows up together. I am very moved by the love between Zujeila and Renato, for their youthful, rock n roll spirit with a social conscience and care for mother nature and the environment. Their commitment to their family and humanity inspires me. I love them very much and very happy to have written a song that can remind me of that great old canal that gave so much life to so many people in what had been a desert, giving life to a great mass of people in a valley divided by war Mexicali and the Imperial Valley.
