Saul Landau made a wonderful documentary titled "We Don't Play Golf Here" in which one of the stories is that of the community of Tepoztlán Mexcio, which rose up to defend their land when a group of investors from the U.S. and Mexico wanted to desecrate their cemetary in order to put a golf course on the site. People froze the town and refused to let anyone in the town to prevent the disrespectful act. The song "Pelotita Blanca" was born from this struggle. The …

There is a beautiful story about how this song was written. Palomita de la ciudad (track 4) started as a verse that came to me as I was taking my daughter to her pre-school class, wlaking with her on my shoulders and looked into the sky as a dove passed us overhead. Many stories came to my mind instantly, of sufferings that people will never tell their relatives as they send money back home; struggles and the truly high cost of coming to the U,S. Who, in all their dignity will send money home and …

I have one thing to say to those who would attack inmigrants: It is not wise to bite the hand that feeds you.
I always like to open a concert with a sort of musical "roll call." If I know folks at the concert or if there is a specific theme, I like to focus on that, giving the audience a focus, a comon vision; a kind of - Why are we here today? Who are we? That is how Pueblo Pueblo started. I would always sing the refrain and improvise the verses. In the mean time we sat down to lay the song and I focused on setting lyrics that would stick. Images came to mind: the folks selling fruit …

El migrante es el honor de la región donde pisa The migrant honors the land where she or he steps. The new cd HONOR MIGRANTE is a collection of songs that honors the life and contribution of migrant people. Nuevo Sol, the first track, is more of a hymn, in the same way that the legendary "Lift Every Voice," honors the struggle of African American people's struggle for freedom from slavery. It is a proclamation that the new sun is risign and we have learned from the darkness of …
